Enterprise is located in Washington Count, approximately 40 minutes northwest of St George. According to the 2000 census, the population was 1285, a 37.3% increase over the previous 10 years. Over the past few years, Enterprise has experienced aggressive growth and will likely exceed the growth rate of 37.3% experienced in the 1990's. Enterpise has two schools: Enteprise Elementary School (K-6)and Enterprise High School (7-12).
Geography
Enterprise is located at an elevation of 5329 feet, at the south rim of the Great Basin. On November 17, 1902 the Pine Valley earthquake occurred only 20 miles southeast of Enterprise (measuring 6.0 on the richter scale).
Enterprise is located 38 miles northwest of St George in Southern Utah.
History
Enterprise was settled in 1896 by it's first resident, John Bernard Morris. Shortly thereafter, several families moved in and the new town was born. Enterprise experienced a large boost in its population after the 1902 earthquake destroyed the nearby town of Hebron. When most of Hebron's residents found their homes destroyed, they picked up and moved to Enterprise (located less than 10 miles away).
Demographics
According to the 2000 census, 1,285 people, 378 households, and 317 families resided in Enterprise. The racial makeup of the town was 95.25% White, 2.49% Native American, 1.17% Hispanic, 0.23% Asian, 0.78% from other races. The average household size was 3.40 and the average family size was 3.82.
The age breakdown was as follows: under 18 - 40.0%, 18 to 24 - 8.9%, 25 to 44 - 21.3%, 45 to 64 - 18.0%, 65 years of age or older - 11/8%. The median age was 26 years. The median income for a household in the town was $35,694, and the median income for a family was $38,500.
